Our first decision has been made - we'll be using swerve drive. Andymark devices have been ordered.

why?

The need to align with fixed elements on the field (the airship and the walls of the field) is much, much easier to do with a swerve or holomorphic drive system. Swerve has the added benefit of having much more traction which is important when one must remain still to shoot "fuel" into the boiler.

Swerve tend to have small wheels but Steamworks has practically zero field obstacles (other than potential fuel, gears and barriers between lift stations).

The use of Andymark swerve drives units also has the added benefit of opening up the entire middle of the chassis giving us maximum vertical space to use.

We received the AM-3009 drive units. Unfortunately, many were damaged or required quite a bit of adjustments for loose mounting and other problems. Ed ended up replacing 2 damaged steering motors with stuff we had in stock. We took 4 units and built a test platform so we can start software testing of the drivetrain.

Chassis 1 and 2 have been completed. Now they are avalible for software to test with.
